“You can practice freedom every moment of your daily life. Every step you take can help you reclaim your freedom. Every breath you take can help you develop and cultivate your freedom. When you eat, eat as a free person. When you breathe, breathe as a free person. This is possible anywhere. Walk as a free person. Walk in such a way that every step brings you more dignity, freedom and stability. Then joy and compassion will be born in your heart. You will realize that most other people do not walk like this, that they are possessed by their anger, fear and their despair. This may motivate you to help them learn how to live in the present moment, how to sit and walk as a free person does.”
I now look at the whole of humanity as my “Brothers” because we are all interconnected. I awaken every morning happy, peaceful and full of compassion. I don’t look at this as prison anymore, this is a unique Zen monastery and my Zi Xing is my teacher. I will be released from Florida department of corrections custody on Jan. 19th 2016, but I am free every single moment of every single day. Mindfulness living in the present moment is all it takes. My daily mantra is no longer WTF, but I have arrived, I am home, every single blessing or obstacle that comes my way is a new lesson or a koan to learn from. Not something to worry or stress about. That is how I just be in prison, extremely non-violent in a violent world, with metta.
